Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, says if elected as Nigeria’s next leader in 2023, he will reduce resource waste in governance.
He said this on Tuesday at the Lagos Business School Alumni Day 2022. The former Vice President desires a small but effective government.
If elected in 2023, Atiku promised to put the Orosanye committee’s recommendations on cutting the cost of governance into action.
The PDP candidate also promised to privatize refineries, diversify the nation’s economy, and implement other reforms to improve the country.
According to the former Vice President, Nigerians have had enough of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and can now easily choose between it and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a series of tweets via his Twitter account, the PDP candidate wrote:
I, for one, believe in small government. I want a small Government and an effective one.
The PDP economic reforms recorded significant achievements between 1999-2015. Now you have seen the impact of the people that took over from us. Now, Nigerians can pick between the two. If you give PDP the opportunity, we will perform better than our previous record.
I want to see a convergence and an elimination of multiple exchange rates. And it is the private sector that suffers. As far as I am concerned, it will be dealt with.
The Oronsaye Report (on cutting cost of governance in the face of dwindling economic fortunes) is our baby. If you elect us, we will complete the job.
I’m going to privatise our crude oil refineries and make Nigeria the hub of crude oil refining in Africa.
My 5-point policy agenda is a summation of the problems I observed in my role as a private sector investor, and those 5 points are the solutions required by every business.
We have to diversify our seaports to take care of the vastness of our country.
