Enner Valencia, a striker for Ecuador, converted a penalty in the 16th minute to net the opening goal of the 2022 World Cup on Sunday.
After an incident-filled opening round of the tournament, Valencia calmly converted from the penalty spot to give Ecuador a 1-0 lead over the hosts Qatar.
Following a VAR intervention, Valencia had just seen what appeared to be the first goal disallowed for a contentious offside.
However, in the 32nd minute, Valencia compounded the woes for Qatar as he scored a powerful header to extend the lead.
Caicedo carries the ball right across the pitch before laying it back to Torres to whip in the first time.
It was a brilliant cross but an even better header from Valencia.
La Tri are two up at half-time and Qatar are facing a mountain now.
Valencia is now Ecuador’s all-time top scorer and has many World Cup goals as England legend Geoff Hurst.
