Iyorchia Ayu, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has declared that the party is one big united family.
WITHIN NIGERIA reports that Ayu declared the party’s unity at the launch of its presidential and governorship campaigns in Kwara State on Thursday.
His statement comes in the midst of a crisis involving the party’s leadership and the five disgruntled governors known as the G5 governors in the PDP.
The G5, led by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, is dissatisfied with Ayu’s refusal to resign as national chairman for a person of southern origin.
The aggrieved governor has maintained their position, claiming that they stand for equity in the zoning process within the party.
Despite the fact that both the aggrieved and the party leadership have stated that they are open to reconciliation, no agreement appears to have been reached.
Most people believe that the five governors’ refusal to work for PDP flag bearer Atiku Abubakar will have an impact on the party’s victory in the upcoming general election next year.
However, WITHIN NIGERIA learned that it was during this turbulent period for the main opposition that its national chairman referred to Atiku as a unifier.
While assuring Nigerians that the party would save the country in 2023, Ayu stated that it was for this reason that the party chose a unifier (Atiku) as its candidate.
According to the PDP national chairman, the party made a mistake by listening to promises of change, but it has now returned to reclaim and set the country on the path of unity.
He said;
PDP is one big united family, and we are on our way to victory. PDP is back to rescue this country and we are a party for all. This is why we picked a unifier who will unite this country.
We made a big mistake by listening to promises that we will change, are you comfortable with this change?
