Babachir Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has mocked the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over his visit to Ebonyi State.
The APC candidate was in Ebonyi to kick off the party’s presidential and governorship campaign rallies ahead of the 2023 general elections.
On Thursday, the campaign kicked off at the Pa Oruta Ngele Township stadium in Abakaliki, the state capital.
Speaking at the event, Tinubu vowed to transform the Southeast into Africa’s Taiwan and to negotiate the region’s peace.
He says his government will build the necessary infrastructure, such as roads and railways, to attract investors if elected president.
Lawal responded on Thursday night on Channels Television’s Politics Today, saying Tinubu had said campaigning in the South-East was a waste of time and resources.
According to the former SGF, the APC candidate refused to campaign in the region during the ruling party’s presidential primaries.
He said:
During the convention, he didn’t even allow us to go the South-East. He said it was a waste of time and money.
Because of the ruling party’s Mulsim-Muslim ticket, Lawal believes the APC candidate has no chance of winning the presidential election.
The former SGF also stated that he had endorsed the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for the 2023 election while emphasizing that he is still a member of the APC.
