Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party Vice presidential candidate, has said President Muhammadu Buhari is quite indifferent to materialisation or otherwise of the presidential ambition of standard bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the 2023 election.
He made the assertion on Sunday when he appeared
on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
Baba-Ahmed said the president had told Nigerians to go and vote for the candidate of their choice, adding that he had also said the only legacy he could leave is a credible election.
He added that Buhari does not care whether Tinubu win or not.
He said, “This is heartbreak for APC. Who made Buhari, after almighty Allah? Tinubu. All his failed attempts and Tinubu came and added his three million [votes] and made him president. Who is going to unmake Tinubu after all his political successes? Buhari.
“This is because Buhari has finished his eight years…he doesn’t need anything.
“It is not about how well Nigeria was run or how bad Nigeria was run. They have finished with Nigeria, they have finished with everybody. Tinubu can go…he means nothing to Buhari.”
While pointing out that Tinubu is disadvantaged going into the race, Baba-Ahmed said the APC had failed to deliver on its campaign promises to Nigerians.
He said the insecurity in Nigeria worsen in the last seven years while the economy nose-dived
He also said corruption and human rights abuses had increased under the leadership of the APC.
While saying the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not also a march for the LP come 2023, Baba-Ahmed said all the strongholds of the PDP had been taken over by the LP.
He added that the PDP could not boast of having control over the South East, South-South and North Central like before, adding that LP is now in control of over 90 per cent of the North Central.
Baba-Ahmed said LP had been able to debunk the lies against its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the north, claiming that the party now has a strong presence in the north.
He expressed optimism that the LP will comfortably win the 2023 presidential election, saying, “there is a war going on now; good Nigerians vs bad leaders
