An executive bill to grant the State-owned College of Education in Oyo university status has been approved by Governor Seyi Makinde.

The bill converting Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo, into Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo was approved by the State House of Assembly on November 25.

In his remarks Monday at his office’s Executive Chamber following his consent to the measure, Mr. Makinde referred to the institution’s upgrade to date as a major success of his administration.

He said that, “as contained in our Roadmap to Accelerated Development in 2023,” education remained one of the administration’s top priorities.

He said other relevant processes for the actualisation of the College’s upgrading to a university status would be completed in a few days time.

The governor commended members of the State House of Assembly, irrespective of political party affiliation, for timely and successful passage of the bill.

Earlier, the Speaker of the House, Adebo Ogundoyin, said that the state legislature prioritised whatever that would bring development into the state.

Mr Ogundoyin commended governor Makinde for the good works being done to Improve the lives of the people of Oyo State.

The institution would become the third university owned by the state, if eventually approved by the National University Commission (NUC).
