The Niger State Police Command has reacted to alleged assassination attempt on Senator Sani Musa, who represents the Niger East senatorial district in the National Assembly.
The state police spokesman, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said there was no assassination attempt on the Senator, adding that it was a case of criminal conspiracy and impersonation.
Unknown gunmen were said to have stormed the senator’s residence in Minna on Saturday night from Abuja.
According to PUNCH, a source who asked to be identified only as Inuwa said the alleged assassins came to the senator’s apartment after he returned to Abuja.
Inuwa said the alleged assailants arrived with fully armed men dressed in military uniforms to carry out their attacks.
He said, “The ones who were not wearing uniforms told the security at the senator’s gate that they were from the office of the National Security Adviser in Abuja on a search mission.
“They told the security at the gate that they have information that arms, ammunition, and huge sums of foreign currencies are stockpiled in the senator’s residence.”
He added that the suspects dispossessed the policemen of their weapons and mobile phones while trying to gain entry into the apartment before information got to the Niger State All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Umar Bago, who mobilised and went to the residence.
However, Abiodun, said, “There was no assassination attempt on the senator in Minna.
“The fact of the incident is that on 03/12/2022 at about 1900hrs, based on a distress call received, some strange, suspicious persons, driving a Toyota Sienna vehicle with registration number FKJ 814 GP, invaded the house of a Senator, located at Tudun-Wada, Minna.
“The command immediately mobilised tactical teams to the scene and the following suspects were arrested; Oladele Peter Akano, aged 49 ‘m’ of Kuruduma, Abuja; Abdul Salisu, aged 31 ‘m’ of Gwagwalada, Abuja; Felix Clarkson, aged 47 ‘m’ of Karu, Abuja; and Babagana Alhaji, aged 39 ‘m’ of Chideri-Polo, Maiduguri.
“During interrogation, the suspects further confessed that Sherrif, a purported whistleblower stated that there are foreign currencies and arms kept in the politician’s residence, so they travelled from Abuja to Minna for execution of search without any warrant.”
