Former Nigerian lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has responded to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar’s statement that if elected in 2023, he may not use Nigerian hospitals for his personal health care.
WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that Atiku, during the Arise Television presidential town hall meeting series on Sunday, revealed that if he becomes the country’s next president, he may not visit Nigeria’s health care facilities.
The PDP presidential candidate stated that this is because the hospitals that would care for him may not be available due to limitations in Nigeria’s health sector.
He says;
Health facilities that cater to my health may not be available.
We have limitations; we know we have those limitations.
Reacting to Atiku’s statement via his Twitter handle, Sani praised Atiku for not toeing the line of deception.
He wrote:
Rather than lie that when he wins he will restrict himself to Nigerian hospital, it’s better that Atiku refused to toe that path of campaign deception.

Nigerian political elites are known for visiting foreign hospitals for their medical welfare, and this decision has mostly been attributed to the inadequate medical facilities in the country.
