The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has explained why its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, wants Nigeria’s refineries to be sold.
Kola Ologbondiyan, spokesman for the PDP’s Presidential Campaign Council, stated that Atiku chose to sell Nigeria’s refineries because the proceeds would fund beneficial projects in the country.
Ologbondiyan bemoaned the Nigerian government’s waste of money in rehabilitating the country’s oil refineries.
On Tuesday, he revealed this during an appearance on the Arise TV Morning Show.
According to Ologbondiyan, “Rather than looking for money and pumping it into ventures and refineries that are not working, Atiku is saying, why not sell them and invest in ventures that are working?”
“Atiku is saying let us generate funds from the sales of refineries and put it into the economy; I believe that policy is good.”
Several times, Atiku has vowed to sell Nigeria’s oil refineries if elected president of Nigeria in 2023.
Speaking during the PDP’s presidential campaign in Lagos yesterday, Atiku said he would sell all of Nigeria’s refineries and use the proceeds to empower youths.
