Police Arrest Three Suspected Armed Robbers In Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a robbery syndicate in the state that specialized in stealing motorcycles from their owners.

On Monday, the suspects, Daniel Akapo, 27, Idowu Sunday, 20, and Dare Olusegun, 24, were apprehended.

SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, announced this in a statement on Tuesday.

Oyeyemi stated that police officers assigned to the Ago-Iwoye divisional headquarters received a distress call reporting that a motorcyclist, Shefiu Moshood, was being attacked by two men posing as passengers and asking him to take them to Oke Erigba village on his motorcycle.

He said “the two suspects suddenly stopped him along the road, and told him that they were not going again.

“They pretended as if they wanted to give him money only to bring out powdered ground pepper and rubbed it on the eyes of the rider, with the view to snatching the motorcycle from him.

While he was struggling with them, a battle axe fell down from the suspects’ bag, which the victim picked to attack them back.

While the struggle was going on,  the DPO Ago Iwoye division, SP Noah Adekanye, arrived at the scene with his men and some OPC men.

“On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums took to their heels but they were hotly chased and the duo of Daniel Akapo and Idowu Ajao Sunday were apprehended.

“On interrogation, they confessed to the commission of the crime, and they informed the police that, one Dare Olusegun asked them to go and snatch the motorcycle with the promise that he would help them sell it somewhere in Ibadan.

“Their confession led to the arrest of the said Dare Olusegun, who also corroborated the statement of the two arrested suspects.”

The PPRO, however, said the Commissioner of Police,  Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspects be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Departments for discreet investigation.
