In order to guarantee the election of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, the Labour Party in Anambra State has inaugurated an 800-member state presidential campaign committee.
Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike, the state coordinator, will serve as the committee’s chairman, and Mr. Okolo Akirika, the former commissioner for lands in the state, will act as secretary.
Speaking during the ceremony in Awka on Wednesday, Uzodike said the LP was a real initiative to help Nigeria out of its precarious circumstances at the moment.
He warned that the party would not hesitate to remove any member found lacking in his assigned function or post and urged the members to band together to secure the party’s overwhelming win at the presidential election.
He said, “This is the committee by the LP presidential candidate. These are those who will work for our presidential candidate. The Presidential campaign is different from other campaigns and that is why all our candidates are members of the committee.
“We also thank Nigerians for finding Peter Obi worthy to contest the presidential election. Nigerians don’t need to verify anymore because all the facts have been verified. This LP is now a serious minded project and we are out to take back Nigeria for Nigerians.”
Also speaking, the Anamnra State chairman of the Party, Mr Ugochukwu Emeh, congratulated members for being found worthy to work in the state’s presidential campaign committee.
Emeh pointed out that the forthcoming presidential election would not be business as usual, as according to him, the LP was set to make a disruptive change that would bring succour to all Nigerians.
He noted that since Obi hailed from the state, all hands must be on deck to give him a resounding victory – not just victory at the polls, but at least, 95 per cent victory in the state.
He urged members of the committee to also reach out to members of other political parties to woo them, and make sure that Obi would be given his due honour by giving him as much as 95% of the total votes cast in the presidential election in Anambra.
A former Commissioner for Economic Panning in Anambra, Prof. Stella Okunna, who also noted that Obi remained the only presidential candidate who has what it takes to deliver Nigeria from its present sorry state.
Okunna encouraged the campaign committee and Nigerians by extension to turn out en masse to support Obi and LP for the overall good of the country.
The Anambra State chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Comrade Chinwe Orizu, said that NLC was solidly behind Obi.
Orizu said that NLC had confidence in the ability of Obi’s government to bring glory and prosperity to Nigeria and Nigerians.
Earlier, while inaugurating the campaign committee, the South East Zonal Coordinator of the Obi/Datti presidential campaign committee, Damian Okeke-Ogene, urged the committee to deliver results that would convince Nigerians that Obi was truly from Anambra State.
Okeke-Ogene, who is also the National Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, emphasised that the Ohanaeze was fully in support of Obi to become the president in 2023.
