Morocco Saturday became the first African country to qualify for the semi-final of a FIFA World Cup after defeating Portugal in the quarter-final.
A first half goal by the North African side, coupled with resolute defending, was all that was needed to ensure a 1-0 victory over the European team.
Morocco have surpassed the three other African sides to reach the quarter-finals — Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002 and Ghana in 2010.
The Morrocan national team had earlier stunned another tournament’s favourites, Spain, in the Round of 16 stage.
The Africa’s hope, Morocco will meet the winner of Saturday evening’s other quarter-final, between France and England, in the semi-final.
