Unregistered/expired aphrodisiacs and other pharmaceuticals were allegedly confiscated in Kaduna, according to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
During a Monday raid on 26 stores at the Sabon Gari market in Zaria LGA, the agency made the seizures.
Oxytocin and microgynon, which were intended to be given for free to IDPs, were among the products seized (injection for women delivered of babies, which required a specific temperature to be stored but were found in the open).
Addressing journalists after the raid, the NAFDAC deputy director in charge of investigation and enforcement in Kaduna, Tamanuwa Andrew, said, “The seized aphrodisiacs were found to contain up to 200 strength milligrams which were more than 100mg that the agency registered.”
Mr Andrew explained that one of NAFDAC’s strategies to reduce or minimise the menace of substandard and falsified products was continuous mop-up from circulation.
