Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide, has slammed the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) for launching a verbal attack on THISDAY newspaper and Arise Television.
THISDAY media group has accused the APC campaign of attempting to remove Shaka Momodu, THISDAY editor, and Rufai Oseni, The Morning Show co-host, from their current positions, according to WITHIN NIGERIA.
The media group said in a statement on Monday that the APC campaign accused it of blackmail and attempting to bully and silence independent media as the general election approaches.
In a statement issued late Monday night, the APC Campaign’s Directorate of Media and Publicity chastised the media group for accusing its leadership of attempting to silence free and fair journalism.
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga and Dele Alake, the APC campaign called the accusation of attempting to bully the media “baseless and stupid.”
In a tweet on Monday, Omokri accused the ruling party of attempting to silence the media group and bully its employees.
According to the former presidential aide, the APC campaign’s actions demonstrate that the APC’s flagbearer, Bola Tinubu, would stifle press freedom.
He wrote:
Why are Bola Tinubu’s people trying to bully @THISDAYLIVE into silence? Is this the type of Nigeria they want? No wonder Tinubu said he would continue from where Buhari stopped. Now, we understand what he meant.
