Operatives of the Sokoto State Police Command have arrested one Haliru Riskuwa popularly known as Lopetee, for kidnapping his neighbour’s seven-year-old son.
The State Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Gumel, disclosed this while parading Lopetee and other seven suspects over alleged kidnapping and banditry in the state.
Gumel said on December 4, around 2.35pm, one Suleman Musa reported at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Sokoto, that around 2pm, unknown persons conspired and kidnapped his son, Musa Suleman, aged seven, and kept him for four days.
The complainant reportedly told the police that N4m ransom was paid before the boy was released.
The CP said, “Painstaking police investigation identified one Haliru Riskuwa, who is a neighbor to the family and popularly known as Lopetee, and he was subsequently arrested.
“According to him, he committed the crime along with one Abdullahi Umar and Faruku Usman Binji. All the suspects are in police custody, except Faruk Usman Binji, who is still at large. So far, N2.5m cash has been recovered from the suspects.”
