In Sokoto State, the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) said it had received more defectors from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other political parties in the state’s eastern zone.
This is according to a statement released to the media on Friday by Bashar Abubakar, Special Assistant to Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC-Sokoto North), the APC leader in North West State.
According to Abubakar, the most recent defections included hundreds of PDP, Labour Party (LP), and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) supporters from Gwadabawa, Illela, and Goronyo Local Government Areas.
These defectors include former Councillors and various stakeholders from the eastern zone of the state.
They were all received at their local governments by the governorship candidate of the party, Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu and his running mate, Alhaji Idris Gobir, he said.
Abubakar went on to say that the development had boosted the APC’s chances of unseating the PDP in the state’s upcoming general elections in 2023.
