Qatar 2022: Why we lost World Cup final to Argentina – France coach Deschamps

Didier Deschamps, France’s head coach, has provided an explanation for why his team fell to Argentina in the 2022 World Cup final on Sunday.

For the majority of the game, Lionel Messi and company controlled the game, and the defending champions fell behind 2-0 after Messi converted a penalty before Angel Di Maria made it 2-0.

However, Kylian Mbappe netted a stunning brace and took the match to extra time.

Messi and Mbappe scored again within 30 minutes to take the game to penalties.

Emiliano Martinez saved twice from Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Tchouameni to ensure Argentina won their third title.

“We didn’t turn up for different reasons (in the first 60 minutes). We have had to face difficult things in the last 4 days. Illness and then things collectively too,” Deschamps told beIN Sports.
