FULL LIST: Fayose missing as PDP appoints council for presidential campaign in Ekiti

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has named a council to oversee the party’s presidential campaign in Ekiti.

Former governor of the state, Ayo Fayose, however, is not on the list.

The PDP has been battling an internal crisis since Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike, and some party stakeholders called for the resignation of the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

The resignation was based on the fact that Ayu is from the same region as the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Fayose is one of the party’s members who has supported Wike’s demands.

In September, at an event in Rivers state hosted by Wike, Fayose urged allies of PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar to do the “necessary” to ensure his victory.

For me, I want to believe his excellency, Atiku Abubakar, is not against you but let me say this quickly. Many people surrounding the throne are enemies of the throne, and many people surrounding the throne have an issue to grind with somebody or some issues with somebody and they take it to where they are not supposed to take it,” Fayose told Wike.

There is no living being within this party and outside this party that will not acknowledge your contribution to this party.

You are the soul of this party even till now. What you do, how many people do it?

In November, the former Ekiti governor asked the PDP to negotiate with Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) standard bearer, and to resolve the party’s crisis by reconciling with Wike’s camp to win the presidency.

Obi had left the PDP in May.

In 2019, the former Anambra governor was the PDP’s vice-presidential candidate, while former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar was the presidential candidate.

According to Fayose, Obi’s participation in the 2023 presidential election could hurt the PDP’s chances.

Bisi Kolawole, a former governorship aspirant and Fayose ally, was named chairman of the Ekiti PCC in the list of appointees.

Aminu Tambuwal, director-general of the PDP presidential campaign organization, said in a statement on Sunday that the appointments are effective immediately.
