Doyin Okupe

A Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted Doyin Okupe, the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council of the Labour Party, and Peter Obi.

The former Senior Special Assistant on Media to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan was found guilty of violating the Money Laundering Act.

In his decision on Monday, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu found Okupe guilty of violating sections 16(1)&(2) of the Money Laundering Act by accepting cash payments in excess of the Act’s threshold without going through a financial institution.

In other news, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has denied a media publication that “over 100 Northerners were killed in the South East last week”.

Ohanaeze described the alleged killing of northerners as “a lie from the pit of hell”, while calling for the investigation of the “alarmists”, to compel them to show proof of the wild allegation.

The National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze, Dr Alex Ogbonnia, who disclosed this in a statement said that making such bogus and untenable allegations capable of setting the country on fire and should not be treated with levity.
