The Adamawa State government has stated that it will develop a policy to sponsor indigent candidates for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examinations Council (NEC) examinations (NECO).
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri announced Monday during a solidarity visit by a women’s political group, Diamond Divas, to Yola, the capital city.
He said the policy on WAEC and NECO examinations sponsorship would soon be given legal backing to support indigent students in the state.
The measure, he said, would ensure the sustainability of the policy by the successive administration, adding, “I wonder how some mothers are left to shoulder payment of the school fees for their children”.
According to him, the policy will alleviate the burden on parents, particularly women with lower incomes than their male counterparts.
He charged the group with going door-to-door to ensure his and other People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidates’ victories in the 2023 general election.
