A suspected kidnapper, Ashiru Ibrahim, has been arrested by the police while trying to collect N3m ransom from the victim’s father in Jos, Plateau State.
The state Commissioner of Police, Bartholomew Onyeka, disclosed this on Friday while briefing journalists on the command’s “breakthroughs” at the state headquarters in Jos
Onyeka said that on December 21, 2022, at about 0140hrs, while acting on a impeccable information from a reliable informant, the 22- year-old suspect of Angwan Rogo, Jos, suspected to have kidnapped one four-year-old Abubakar Nazifi of Zam Zam, Abuja Mata Rikkos, Jos on December 19, 2022, was arrested by police operatives attached to ‘A’ Division of the command at Leicester Hotel area while collecting N3m ransom from the victim’s parents.
He stated, “Upon interrogation, the suspect made some useful disclosure that led to the rescue of the victim from the kidnappers’ den unhurt. Further investigation led to the arrest of his accomplice, one Bashir Saleh ‘m’ of Rikkos, Jos who initiated the kidnapping. The case is still under investigation.’’
The commissioner also said that eight other kidnappers were arrested in separate operation carried out by his men in Quaapan LGA of the state after they abducted two women
He stated, “On 24/09/2022 at about 0930hrs, a case of kidnapping was reported at the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the command by a complainant that some unidentified gunmen invaded his brother’s compound at Gidan Dabat village, Qua’anpan LGA, Jos, on 22/09/2022 at about 2200hrs and kidnapped his wife, one Talatu Dayil Ayuba and Dangnan Danladi both females to unknown destination until ransom of N2m was paid to their captors before they were released.
“On receipt of the report, the Anti-kidnapping operatives swung into action and arrested the following suspects in connection with the kidnap; (1) Naandem Dennis aged 30 years, (2) Bitrus Gideon Daboki, 42 years old, (3) Zakka Tashak, 48 years old, (4) Tashak Peter, 52 years old (5) Aaron Dowang, 70 years old, (6) Chinkinan Aaron, 47 years old, (7) Titus Dayil, 25 years and (8) James Adamu, 53 years both males of Gidan Dabat village of Qua’anpan LGA, Jos. Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to have conspired, perpetrated the crime and collected N2m as ransom. The suspects will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is completed.”
The commissioner warned criminals to desist from their activities especially during the festive period, saying that he had directed his men to provide watertight security before, during and after the Christmas and New Year celebrations in the state.
