Ahead of the 2023 election, Labour Party leaders in Enugu State’s Ukehe, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area (LGA) and Lejja, Nsukka Local Government Area (LGA) collapsed their structures for the Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday (PDP).
Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Governor of Enugu State and PDP candidate for Enugu North Senatorial District, met the decampees, led by Uchenna Okpe.
Okpe stated in his address that they joined the PDP because of their belief in Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration’s “laudable efforts” to provide democratic dividends to the people.
“Your Excellency, all the people who accompanied me to this place are members of Labour Party but as things are today in Lejja and with the commencement of the construction of our road by your administration, we have decided to return to the PDP.
“Your Excellency, I am very grateful that work has started on this road. We are going to work with you and support you to win your senatorial election on the platform of the PDP,” Okpe said.
