Former Kaduna Central lawmaker Shehu Sani has urged the disgruntled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors, colloquially known as the G5, to support the presidential candidate in 2023.
The Governors, who are in London for a strategic meeting, is reportedly planning to use the occasion to agree on a candidate to support in the 2023 presidential election.
Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers State), Seyi Makinde (Oyo State), Samuel Ortom (Benue State), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia State), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu State) have withdrawn their support for PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.
They insisted that the only condition for supporting Atiku’s 2023 bid was the resignation of PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu and his replacement with a southerner.
Despite several meetings and entreaties to resolve the disagreement, Ayu has refused to step down, and the Governors’ position has not changed.
According to information obtained by WITHIN NIGERIA, the Governors are holding a strategic meeting in London and may have completely ruled out any possibility of supporting the PDP and Atiku.
According to a source, the G5 Governors will choose between the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Tinubu, and the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Peter Obi.
While the Governors are said to be focused on supporting a southern candidate, they also want to select a candidate who will defeat Atiku, so they do not become a laughingstock after the 2023 elections.
According to the source, a final decision will be made at the London meeting, as the G5 governors are expected to launch their campaign on January 5.
When asked who the Governors should support, Sani, without naming names, advised them to go with the Devil they know.
Taking to his Twitter account on Tuesday, he wrote:
G-5 Governors should endorse ‘the Devil’ they know and not…
