Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has requested that the governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahaman Abdurazaq, retract his claims that he (Saraki) embezzled the Universal Basic Education (UBEC) Fund while governor of the state.
WITHIN NIGERIA understands that Saraki, a two-term governor of Kwara State, has denied the incumbent governor’s claim that he embezzled UBEC funds during his tenure.
Saraki has given the governor seven days to retract the claims or face him in court, according to a statement signed by his press officer on local matters, Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir.
The former Senate President stated that he has long tolerated the lies and is prepared to take legal action if Abdurazaq does not retract the claims.
It was learned that during the inauguration of the campaign council of the APC senatorial candidate for Kwara Central on Sunday, the Kwara State governor accused Saraki of embezzling UBEC funds and also of using his position as Senate President to prevent the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from investigating the case.
The claims, according to the former governor, are an outright lie that the governor must retract immediately.
Saraki stated that;
I have ignored all his lies all this while as I believe he was resorting to that cheap escape measure to mask his failure in governance. Now, I will have to take strong measures by challenging him in court since he will not desist from fabricating lies against me.
I have told my lawyers to write him to retract the statement or be ready to prove it in court.
