The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has issued a statement clarifying the death of its President-General, Prof George Obiozor.
WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that speculations about his death have been circulating since Boxing Day, when it was reported that the octogenarian Obiozor died of a heat-related illness.
However, in a brief statement to deny the rumours and reports of his death, Ohanaeze Ndigbo spokesman Dr Alex Ogbonnia told The Nation that Obiozor is not dead.
It was discovered that various rumours about the alleged death of Obiozor have persisted.
According to a chieftain of Ohanaeze, who spoke to DAILY POST on Wednesday, Obiozor died on Monday, December 26, 2022, but his death has yet to be announced.
The source said:
The man is dead but it’s not in our tradition to announce such death even when we have such information, we allow the family members to make such an announcement.
He died on Monday of heart-related disease. I’m not specific about where he died but he travelled abroad and returned to Lagos.
I was called in the early hours of December 26th that he died in the early hours.”
However, in what seems to be contrary to this, the group’s spokesman, Ogbonnia told The Nations that “Whatever I tell you is the truth and official. The man is alive. He is not dead.”
It was also gathered that one of his aides responded to the speculations saying “I do not know anything.”
