Professor George Obiozor’s passing has been hailed as a huge loss to the country by Chimaroke Nnamani, a former governor of Enugu State.
Reacting to the death of the elder statesman in Abuja, Senator Nnamani said Nigeria and the South East Zone in particular have lost a patriot and mentor who stood to be counted when it mattered.
Senator Nnamani, who represents Enugu East in the Senate, expressed regret that Professor Obiozor passed away at a time when the country most needed his expertise to navigate the murky political waters.
He recalled Professor Obiozor’s accomplishments as a renowned scholar, a model diplomat, and a keeper of Igbo culture and tradition, and argued that his departure has left a significant gap in the field.
Senator Nnamani said, “As an Ambassador, Professor Obiozor marketed Nigeria and her potential to the outside world. He demonstrated enormous capacity in leadership and international affairs.
“At home in Nigeria, he contributed to the socio-political and economic developments. He was a leader without boundaries.
“We shall miss his intellectual and oratory prowess, frank and patriotic disposition to national issues. He called a spade its rightful name no matter whose ox was gored”.
Senator Nnamani added that Professor Obiozor was an emancipator of sorts because he stood for the oppressed and the downtrodden at all times.
“As President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Professor Obiozor stood for his people and strived for a society of equal opportunities for all irrespective of tribe or religion”, Senator Nnamani stressed.
He enjoined the governments and people of the South Eastern States, especially, Imo State to take solace in the fact that Professor Obiozor left good legacies and positive footprints in the sands of time.
Senator Nnamani prayed that God grants the deceased eternal rest.
