Angry mob attacked a gang of suspected robbers operating in a tricycle (Keke) between Effurun Roundabout and PTI express road in Warri, Delta State.
It was gathered that the robbers were attacked following the cry of a female passenger who was forcefully dispossessed of her mobile phones and other valuables.
In the ensuing pandemonium, two of the suspected tricycle robbers escaped and took to their heels while one was caught by the mob who beat him to pulp.
According to PUNCH, the middle-aged victim had joined the tricycle painted in commercial colour from Airport road enroute PTI junction when she was attacked midway by the three suspected robbers, and forcefully dispossessed of her mobile phones, a bag containing a sum of N5,000 and some other vital documents.
Consequently, the woman raised an alarm when the suspected keke robbers made spirited moves to push her out of the moving tricycle.
Her agonised cry drew the attention of passers-by and other motorists and dramatically, some commercial keke and bus drivers pursued the suspected robbers and eventually caught up with them.
The good Samaritans intercepted the suspects’ tricycle on sighting the wailing victim still crying for help.
In the ensuing melee, two of the suspected robbers escaped and took to their heels while one was caught by an irate mob who beat him almost to death before the intervention of security operatives from the Nigeria police.
While narrating her ordeal, the victim said she entered the commercial painted tricycle from Airport road to PTI junction before she was attacked and robbed by the three suspected robbers of her mobile phones, bag containing a sum of N5,000 and some documents.
The state police public relations officer, Bright Edafe, could not be reached for comments on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
