Human Rights Writers Association (HURIWA) has praised former President Olusegun Obasanjo for endorsing Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate Peter Obi.
The group’s Chairman, Emmanuel Onwubiko, described those opposed to Obasanjo’s endorsement of the former Governor of Anambra State as anarchists in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja.
The group argued that any politician or presidential candidate who opposes Obi’s endorsement does not care about the country or want it to progress.
HURIWA went on to say that genuine democrats who are guided by the tenets of fundamental freedoms enshrined in the 1999 Federal Republic of Nigeria Constitution will be pleased that Obasanjo endorsed Obi.
In his New Year message titled “My Appeal to all Nigerians, particularly Young Nigerians,” Obasanjo endorsed Obi to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
The former Nigerian leader stated that the LP flagbearer possessed the qualities and attitudes required to successfully direct Nigeria’s affairs at this time.
Obasanjo stated that Obi has a track record of ability and performance; an authentic, honest, and realistic vision; and the character and attributes of a gentleman.
The former President also slammed the Muhammadu Buhari administration, claiming that it has left many Nigerians sad and that many have had horrible experiences since it came to power in 2015.
He claimed that the last seven years of the Buhari administration have turned Nigeria into “hell on Earth” for the majority of Nigerians.
