Manchester United has signed Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland on loan to serve as a backup to the club’s first-choice goalkeeper David de Gea.
After Newcastle United cut short Martin Dubravka’s loan spell at United ahead of the January transfer window, United had to offer Jack Butland a 6-month deal as an immediate solution.
Butland, who has been a Crystal Palace goalkeeper since 2020, has yet to appear for the club this season. As a result, the club permitted him to join United for the remainder of the 2022-2023 season.
Butland was also a member of Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad in 2018. He made nine international appearances for England before being dropped from the squad.
The 29-year-old English goalkeeper has played in 87 Premier League games so far in his career.
However, he has only appeared in 10 Premier League games for Palace and has not been a regular in the Premier League since Stoke City was relegated in 2018.
After sealing his loan move to Manchester United, Jack Butland said:
