On Thursday, disgruntled governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) sought support for Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State’s re-election.
WITHIN NIGERIA reports that the governors arrived in the state on Wednesday and stormed Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the site of the Oyo governor’s campaign launch.
The G5 governors, including Rivers’ Nyesom Wike, Enugu’s Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Benue’s Samuel Ortom, and Abia’s Okezie Ipeazu, were all present at the campaign rally.
Speaking at the event, Wike urged Oyo residents to support Makinde’s re-election bid and to vote for PDP candidates at all levels in the state.
He said:
Seyi Makinde, our youth leader in G5, a young man who is dependable, a young man who you can trust, a young man you can go home and sleep with your two eyes closed; Seyi Makinde has done well since you gave him the mandate in 2019.
You all know that Seyi Makinde has done well since he came in 2019 and therefore, the only way we can appreciate more and benefit more is for him to go back and complete the good work he has started.
The governors have boycotted PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar’s campaign rallies and are demanding the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
The governors demand Ayu’s resignation because the party’s presidential candidate and national chairman cannot be from the same region, according to the governors.
