Concerns have been expressed by a group of civil society organizations about reports of missing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and the difficulties in locating them ahead of the 2023 general elections.
On Friday, the group urged President Muhammadu Buhari to hold a free and fair election in 2023.
The organizations made the call during a press conference led by Maximilian Tashilani, the Focal Person of the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Groups; Okpanachi Jacob, the Convener of the Coalition of Civil Society For Good Governance; and Yusuf Ibrahim, the Chairman of Arewa Transformational Leaders.
The civil society organizations also demanded that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) improve voter education.
He said;
From all indications, President Muhammadu Buhari is not only desirous of bequeathing the legacy of a free and fair election, but he is also poised to ensure that all institutions responsible for delivering credible elections are genuinely independent.
The difficulties voters undergo to collect their PVCs are unbearable. Aside from the challenges of locating one PVC, there are also reports of missing PVCs.
The organisation’s call is barely 49 days before the 2023 general elections.
