Enugu: Tension as Igbo-Eze North security outfit allegedly shoot man dead

The security situation in Igbo-Eze North local government area of Enugu has once again taken a nose dive as security agents allegedly shot a young man dead.

WITHIN NIGERIA source revealed that ” the young man which was simply identified as Wago was killed about three days ago by the Igbo-Eze North security outfit. He was shot dead by these security people in our council area.”

Narrating the worsening security situation in the council area, our source explained that “Few days back, a young man popularly known as George Bush was also arrested while returning from Eke market. He was detained , tortured and later released. We hope that this amnesty by the state government is real.”

Recall that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has granted amnesty to 41 youths in the council area  following the renouncement of their  militant activities in the area.

The youths surrendered their weapons to the government after  peace dialogues initiated by the government to stem the several months of unrest and insecurity in the council area which had claimed so many lives on both sides.

The event held at the Igbo-Eze North LGA Pavillion, Ogrute in Enugu-Ezike, showed a turning point in the several efforts for peace and stability in the area.

The Chairman of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, Prince Ejike Itodo, who represented Ugwuanyi at the occasion, described the event as the most important of all and the high point of the Christmas and New Year celebrations in the area .

However, with the current upsurge in the insecurity in the council area, there is growing fear if the amnesty program could stem the tide of insecurity in the area.

By and large, all efforts to get the confirmation of the police on the recent incident proved abortive as the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO Mr. Daniel Ndukwe could not pick his call.
