On Sunday, Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq praised the Nigerian Armed Forces for their dedication and loyalty to the nation.
At the Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service held at Mount Olive Anglican Church in Ilorin to honour Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Emblem Appeal Week, AbdulRazaq reaffirmed this.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy Kayode Alabi, claimed that the valiant Nigerians had complied with Biblical mandates regarding service. These heroes, he said, “served their country and offered their lives as a ransom for the preservation of the nation”.
AbdulRazaq appreciated the effort and sacrifice of the Nigerian Armed Forces in maintaining peace, security and tranquillity in the state and beyond.
He, therefore, called on the people to support and cooperate with members of the Nigerian Armed Forces to combat security challenges that undermine the stability of our nation.
The former state Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Evang. Timothy Opoola, in his sermon, said: “Sacrifice is an expression of love. When you love, you give all.”
He enjoined the people not to be afraid to make any sacrifice but to live a life of sacrifice to God and fellow humans.
In his remarks, the CAN Chairman, Kwara Chapter, Bishop Sunday Adewole, called on the government at all levels to do more in supporting the forces.
Adewole encouraged the military to continue discharging its duties with utmost professionalism.
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is observed every Jan. 15 in honor of fallen heroes of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
