Police kill two gunrunners conveying arms to terrorists in Zamfara

Two suspected gunrunners have been killed by the police while attempting to convey arms to terrorists’ camps along the Gumi-Anka Road in Zamfara State.

The suspects were intercepted while allegedly attempting to transport weapons from Taraba to Zamfara.

The operatives were cross-examining a black Corolla car with the registration number: NIGER, SRP 702 XA where about 400 rounds of live ammunition, three rocket weapons, two bombs, and charms were recovered.

The state police spokesperson, SP Mohammed Shehu, said the two victims who came all the way from Taraba state were trying to convey arms to terrorists camp in Zamfara state when they were intercepted by the police.

Shehu said, “On January 7, 2023, Police Tactical Operatives have successfully neutralised two gunrunners along Gummi-Anka road following an extensive gun duel that lasted for hours between the Police and the gun runners.

“The gunrunners were conveying sophisticated arms and ammunition to terrorists camp in Zamfara all the way from Taraba State.

“The feat was recorded following an Intelligence Information received about the movement of the suspects inside a Toyota Corolla Vehicle containing the exhibits from Taraba State en route to terrorists camp in Zamfara State.

“Two of the suspects were fatally injured while others escaped to the bush with possible gun shot wounds.”

Shehu said the two injured suspects were taken to Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital Gusau, and later confirmed dead by the Doctor while on admission.
