The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has confirmed that seven of its personnel, along with five others, were ambushed and killed at the Kuriga mining site in Kaduna State’s Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
Mr Olusola Odumosu, the NSCDC Director of Public Relations, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja that the five others were from a sister security agency and a local vigilance group.
He stated that one NSCDC employee was injured during the attack and is currently receiving treatment.
Odumosu said that the attack which occurred on Monday at about 10 a.m, was unfortunate and a big loss to the Corps and family of the deceased
He further said that the attackers carted away rifles of the slain operatives, adding that the remains of the officers and men had been deposited at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital in Kaduna.
Meanwhile, the Corps has lost three other personnel from the National Headquarters in a car accident on Monday evening.
The accident victims were a female personnel and two male operatives.
