The Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu, vowed on Tuesday to stand as surety for the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu if he is granted bail.
The IPOB leader is currently being held at a Department of State Service facility (DSS).
On Tuesday’s Channels TV program, Kalu expressed confidence that the Federal Government will respect the next court decision on Kanu’s bail.
The former governor of Abia State revealed that he is close to the IPOB leader’s family in Abia’s Afaraukwu Ibeku area.
He did, however, claim that the IPOB leader and his family ignored his advice.
Despite Kanu’s continued detention in the DSS facility, Kalu stated that he will not abandon the family.
The lawmaker said:
I made his father the traditional ruler of their place when I was governor. I’m close to them but they didn’t listen to me but that will not make him to abandon them. I will not abandon them.
I will stand surety for him if the Federal Government wants to release him to me. And I can keep him in my compound here in Abuja or Igbere (in Abia) and counsel him.
