Former Italy defender, Maurizio Domizzi has advised Napoli to saddle Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen with the responsibility of taking the team’s penalty in the Serie A,
Recall that the Nigerian international scored a goal in Napoli’s 2-0 win over Sampdoria at the weekend to help the team maintain their grip on the top of the league table.
Napoli had a penalty in both halves, Matteo Politano had his spot kick saved while Elif Elmas scored his.
However, speaking on Radio Ponto Nuovo as quoted by Tuttonapololi.net, Domizzi seemed surprised that Osimhen didn’t take any penalty against Sampdoria.
“The penalty taker issue? It’s a bit strange that someone like Osimhen doesn’t take penalties, he’s the leading striker and the most prolific,” said.
“Evidently either he or whoever on the staff will have decided differently. Usually the penalty taker is chosen by the coach only partially, it is above all the teammates who choose and recognize the true penalty taker of the team.
“It’s more a question of character and personality not just technique.”
Osimhen has played 13 Serie A games this season scoring 10 goals and two assists.
He has scored 15 goals in 23 appearances for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Napoli currently top the Serie A standings with 44 points from 17 games.
