Professor Ibrahim Garba and Ibrahim Shehu Usman, the former vice chancellor and bursar of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, respectively, were charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday with eight counts of theft and money laundering involving more than N1 billion.
The former Vice Chancellor and Bursar were arraigned before Justice A.A Bello by the Kaduna Zonal Command of EFCC.
According to the anti-graft agency, the arraignment of the two top former ABU officials followed months of discreet investigation triggered by a petition accusing the duo of diverting monies meant for the renovation of the popular Kongo Conference Hotel, Zaria.
EFCC said its investigations established that over one billion Naira was allegedly stolen from different accounts of the institution by the defendants and diverted into their private accounts.
