Supreme court nullifies Imo West PDP Senatorial Election
The Peoples Democratic Party’s primary poll, which resulted in Hon. Jones Onyerere running as its senatorial candidate for Imo West in the February National Assembly election, was declared invalid by the Supreme Court on Friday in Abuja.
According to the judgement, the Supreme Court declared the primary election invalid because it was held in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, rather than Orlu, where Imo West’s senatorial office is located.
In his ruling on the appeal brought by Hon. Nnamdi Ezeani, Justice Emmanuel Agim, ruled that the PDP had flagrantly broken Section 87(9) of the Electoral Act by holding the primary poll somewhere other than the designated location.
With the new development, the party will not field any candidate in the February 2023 general elections as far as Imo West Senatorial District is concerned.
