Wout Weghorst Finally Completes His Move To Man United

Wout Weghorst

After many speculations, Wout Weghorst has now officially moved on loan to Manchester United.

In order for Wout Weghorst to be eligible for the Manchester derby on Saturday, United was working to close the deal before Friday. Weghorst flew to Manchester on Thursday for his medical.

Sadly, United was unable to complete the transaction quickly enough. So Weghorst won’t be able to play in the Manchester derby, the club’s coach Erik ten Hag confirmed earlier on Friday.

It’s interesting to note that Manchester United made the official announcement of Wout Weghorst’s signing late on Friday.

The 30-year-old, a Burnley loanee who was playing for Besiktas in Turkey, ended his loan early in order to join Old Trafford for the remainder of the season.

Weghorst scored eight goals, provided four assists, and added a goal in two Turkish Cup contests for Besiktas in 16 league games.

Weghorst was added to Ten Hag’s attacking lineup in November after Cristiano Ronaldo abruptly left United.

After he sealed his loan move to United Weghorst said:

I feel privileged to be joining Manchester United.

I’ve played against the club in the past and it’s a fantastic feeling to now have the chance to pull on the famous red shirt. I’ve seen United’s progress under Erik ten Hag this season and can’t wait to start playing my part in pushing the team towards its aims.

Whatever happens in the next few months, I can promise to give everything to the club for as long as I am here.

I thank everyone who has played a part in getting me to this stage, and now I am looking forward to meeting my new teammates and getting involved straight away.

For the Dutchman’s services, Manchester United agreed to pay Burnley a loan fee of about £2.6 million.

The Red Devils will pay Weghorst’s salary in full as part of the agreement, but they are not required or given the option to sign him long-term.
