Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has responded to a tragic accident involving his party supporters in Plateau State over the weekend.
WITHIN NIGERIA previously reported that many PDP supporters were feared dead after a truck transporting them crashed on Saturday, January 15, 2023, in the Panyam area of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident was confirmed by Peter Longsan, a spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Plateau, who added that the number of casualties has yet to be determined.
According to him, many people were rushed to various hospitals by both FRSC officials and volunteers.
In response to the incident, Atiku asked God to comfort the bereaved families.
The PDP presidential candidate described the incident as a tragedy and expressed his condolences to the affected families on Twitter.
Atiku’s tweet read:
I am numbed by the tragedy in which scores of lives were lost and injured in a road accident at the end of the Plateau Central PDP Campaign flag-off yesterday in Pankshin LGA. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims.
On behalf of my family and team, I express my deepest condolences to the affected families and the @OfficialPDPNig in Plateau State. May they be comforted, and may the souls of the deceased rest in peace.
