The lawmaker representing Ogbaru 1 State Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwunonso Noble Igwe, has lamented that some communities in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the State have not seen Electricity for many years.
Igwe, who revealed that communities like Ogwuikpele, Ogwuaniocha, Akili-Ogidi, Obagwa and some others have not seen electricity from the National Grid, maintained that these communities had been living in total darkness for many years culminating in underdevelopment of the areas.
Igwe, whose position was prompted by the Bill for a Law to establish the Anambra State Power and Rural Electrification Agency, explained that the State Government should help the affected communities by assenting to the establishment of the Power and Rural Electrification Agency to curb many years of absolute darkness in the affected communities.
The lawmaker said electricity in those areas would engender economic development and also fight crimes. He said absence of electricity had precluded the establishment of cottage industries as cost of alternative power supply was drastically expensive.
Although he mentioned that several attempts had been made by the lawmaker representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency Hon. Chuchu Onyema to ensure that the affected communities were connected to the national grid.
Igwe said Hon. Chuchu Onyema’s efforts had been continually sabotaged even as he expressed belief that someday the affected communities would see electricity in their lifetime.
