A village head, Mohammed Abdulsafur, has been killed during a violent clash among youths at Lambata in Gurara local government area of Niger State.
Abdulsafur died as a result of the injuries inflicted on him by the youths who invaded the residence of the village head and attacked him on Saturday evening, The Nation reports.
The reason for the attack remains unknown but the Niger State Government has imposed a curfew in Lambata from Sunday till further notice.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, in a statement said the curfew would be from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, adding the action would assist the security agencies to stabilise the situation in the area, save lives and ensure restoration of law and order.
“Government condemn in strong terms the violence and act of lawlessness that has occurred in Lambata town”.
The State Government called on the residents of the area to cooperate with the security agents in the urgent task of restoring peace in Lambata urging security agencies to ensure the enforcement of the curfew.
The late village head, who retired as the State Control Officer in the Leprosy and Tuberculosis programme, is survived by a wife and 13 children.
