The Nigerian gay rights activist, Bisi Alimi has implored his fellow colleagues married to women to divorce their partners and live their truth.
Recall that some celebrities and married men were rumoured to be guys which have continued to dominate discussions on social media.
However, the Nigerian fashion designer, Yomi Casual had debunked such allegations levelled against him.
Reacting to the strange development, Alimi via his Instagram stories on Monday charged gay men to stop lying about their sexuality.
“Dear gay men, today is a good day to divorce your wife, set that woman free so you can finally live your truth and find inner peace. While it wont be easy, think about the cost of living a lie,” he wrote.
Alimi is the founder and executive director of Bisi Alimi Foundation, an organisation working to accelerate the social acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people in Nigeria.
He gained global attention in 2004 when he came out to openly reveal his sexuality on ‘New Dawn with Funmi’, a popular TV show on NTA and anchored by Funmi Iyanda, the talk show host.
His revelation was greeted with heated backlash, with family and some friends said to have dissociated themselves from him.
Alimi has snagged several recognitions for his gay activism, including being added to The Gay UK LGBT 2014 honour list in recognition of his work for ‘Education in the LGBTQ Community.
