The Bauchi State Police Command arrested one Umar Abubakar for illegally possessing a pistol in Narbodo village, Toro local council, Bauchi State.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer Ahmed Wakil, the suspect purchased a locally made pistol for N25,000 from a friend, Mohammed of Nasarawa State, along with three live 7.62mm ammunition.

“The suspect also confessed to having purchased the firearm two years ago, and he fired one piece of ammunition while chasing cattle rustlers in Mangu local council of Plateau State,” the PRO said.

Wakil went on to say that the suspect confessed to handing over the gun to a friend to sell because it was useless to him before he was arrested. He stated that Abubakar and his friend were charged in connection with the case with criminal conspiracy and concealment of an illegal firearm.

Also, the Command said that seven Sara-Suka (political thugs) who were allegedly terrorising several areas of the metropolis were arrested.

According to him: “The restive youths known as Yan Sara Suka came out in their numbers from different wards of Bauchi metro, which include; Unguwar Kur, Bakaro, Karofi, Yakubu Wanka, Kwanar Kwaila, and Unguwar Doya respectively, converged and invaded Kobi Street Bauchi, armed with dangerous weapons unleashing terror on innocent citizens and looting shops.

The suspects are: Sani Mohammed, 27, of Unguwar Kur, Suleiman Mohammed, 19, Imrana Abbas, 19, of Dutsen Tanshi, Ibrahim Muhammed, 18, Hassan Alhassan,18, Babangida Salisu, 20, all of Anguwar Kur and Dutsen Tanshi respectively.

Items recovered includes; four handset phones, N17, 000. Exhibits recovered from the suspects are: two matches, three knives,” he said.

Police said that effort has been intensified to arrest other fleeing accomplices.
