26-year-old man jailed for robbing Uber driver in Lagos

Taofeek Jimoh, 26, was sentenced to six months in prison by a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court on Lagos Island for assaulting and robbing an Uber driver at the Illubirin expressway area of Oja Oba Lagos Island, Lagos.

The defendant entered a plea of guilty to the two-count charge brought by the Police against him, and Police Counsel Ajaga Agboko presented the facts of the case to the court. The defendant was then sentenced by Magistrate Mr. T.A. Idowu.

According to police, the victim, Oluwafemi Oladepo, was robbed of his Infinix hot 5 phone, worth N63,000, and N30,000 in cash after his car broke down in the area late one night, according to the convict and other suspects still at large.

Following the incident, the victim reported the matter to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Adeniji Adele Division, Lagos Island of the Lagos State Police Command who directed his men to fish out the suspects and recover the stolen properties.

The Police team swung into action and after days of intelligence gathering tracked the convict to his hideout on Lagos Island and arrested him while his accomplices managed to escape.

Jimoh who claimed to reside at Illubirin under the bridge, Lagos Island was charged before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos Island on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

Police Prosecuting Counsel, Ajaga Agboko told the Court in the charge marked TD/37/2022 that the convict committed the offence on the night of 25 November 2022 at the Illubirin expressway area of Lagos Island.

Agboko informed the Court that the convict and others still at large stormed out from their hideout at Illubirin under the bridge and descended on the complainant, an Uber driver when his car broke down in the area and robbed him of his Infinix hot 5 phone and N30,000 cash and escaped before the convict was arrested through tracking while others escaped.

Agboko said the offences, the convict committed were punishable under sessions 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The convict pleaded guilty to the charges in the open Court and the Presiding Magistrate, Mr T.A Idowu subsequently sentenced him to six months imprisonment without an option of fine.
