The Nigerian Army has commenced an investigation following the torture of a female soldier by her senior colleagues at the Nigerian Army Women Corps in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
In a trending video shared by SaharaReporters, one of the soldiers used a stick to flog the victim, who was pinned to the ground by another soldier.
The soldier who pinned the junior colleague to the ground used a cloth to cover her face.
However, in a bid to defend herself, the female soldier, despite being pinned to the ground, used her hands to pack granite on the floor, which she threw in different directions to stop the attack.
No fewer than four other military personnel were seen in the video observing as the assault on the female soldier was being perpetrated by the soldiers who accused the victim of slapping an officer.
Another video clip attached to the post showed the victim sitting on the ground as broken parts of the stick used in beating her were seen on the floor.
The lady, while writhing in pain, showed the injuries she sustained.
The spokesperson for the Nigerian Army Women Corps, H.S. Abdullah, said an investigation into the case was ongoing.
He said, “We saw it as well but the authorities are working on it by investigating to know what happened. The department of military police is working on the case.
“If you have been following our records over the years, anything that happens like that in the military is followed by investigation, and other procedures also follow, which this case is not an exception.”
