Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, a PDP candidate for governor in Delta State, was docked at the Federal High Court in Asaba on Tuesday regarding an accusation of certificate forgery brought by former candidate Chief Novwie Ikie.
The trial judge heard testimony from Oborevwori, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, who asserted that he was the original owner of the WAEC certificate that his opponent was accused of forging.
He confirmed to the trial judge that he was born in 1963 rather than 1979 by supplying pertinent documentation to support his claim.
He also told the court that in an effort to correct the erroneous date of birth in his WAEC certificate, he swore to an affidavit and Deed Poll to correct the date.
The case was adjourned to February 22nd, 2023, after the defence lawyers closed their case for adoption of written addresses by respective counsels
