Gunmen have shot dead Enugu cow seller while not less than five others were injured on Monday evening.
The deceased simply known as Alhaji Hurudei was murdered along Opanda/Adani high way on Monday evening.
WITHIN NIGERIA source revealed that Alhaji Hurudei, a popular cow seller was on his way on his motorcycle from Adani community to Opanda, all in Uzo-Uwani local government area of Enugu state when he was forcefully stopped by the gun men and shot on the chest.
An eye witness told our reporter that ” these gun men were putting on security outfit uniform to disguise themselves and confuse people plying the road that they were security men like Neighborhood Watch.
“Normally security usually stay in that area but that day being Monday sit-at-home, there was no such security that day. So, when Alhaji Hurudei got to that point where he was attacked, he had already seen those people, wielding AK-47 rifles but he thought that they were security men only to be forcefully stopped by these gun men and shot him on the chest.”
Narrating the eye witness explained that ” I was in my farmland when I heard the sound of the gun shots. I thought it was members of Neighborhood Watch Security outfit that was shooting only to hear some persons shouting and running inside bush.
“It was later I discovered that these gun men numbering about five were about to attack commercial bus heading to Adani when the driver stopped and the passengers jumped out of the vehicle and ran into bush.”
Our reporter gathered that on the process, many of the passengers got injured.
WITHIN NIGERIA investigation showed Opanda/Adani high way has become notorious in recent time for armed robbery, kidnapping and murder.
Only two months ago, a senior police officer was shot on his way from Adani to Opanda. This was happening few weeks after three persons were also kidnapped on the highway.
However, the corpse of the latest victim, Alhaji Hurudei has been buried today at Adani Cemetery according to Islamic rites.
When contacted on phone the Police Public Relations Officer of the state Mr. Daniel Ndukwe couldn’t pick his call for confirmation.
