Suspected thugs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have held Rivers State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Tonye Cole, hostage in Opobo, the hometown of the PDP governorship candidate, Siminilayi Fubara.

According to The Nation, in a video clip leaked by eyewitnesses, sporadic gunshots were heard at the place.

This is the second time the APC’s campaign rally was attacked in the state in two weeks.

WITHIN NIGERIA recall that the first one was in Port Harcourt City Council where suspected dynamite exploded and injured five persons.

The state police command is yet to react to the attack at the time of filling this report.

Meanwhile, the state police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement confirmed that armed men attacked the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Senator Magnus Abe, while heading for Akinima in Ahoada West Local Government for campaigns.

However, Iringe-Koko said security personnel attached to the candidate were able to repel the attack, which occurred on Monday.

She said the police immediately dispatched a tactical team to reinforce the security agents earlier posted to the campaign venue.
